Over 1300 LiveOps Independent Agents Handled Donations for "Disaster in the Gulf: How You Can Help" Live Telethon

Donations Will Aid the People and Wildlife Affected by the Oil Spill in the Gulf of Mexico

Santa Clara, CA, June 28 – On June 21, more than 1300 LiveOps independent agents answered phones and handled donations on behalf of "Disaster in the Gulf: How You Can Help," a celebrity telethon hosted by Larry King and CNN. The Nature Conservancy, The National Wildlife Federation and United Way selected LiveOps to handle the call volume for the telethon pledges, a live two-hour telethon that raised nearly $1.8 million. The funds will be used by these non-profit organizations to help the people, wildlife, and habitats impacted by the oil spill disaster along the U.S. Gulf Coast region.

"This oil spill has had an overwhelming impact on our country and it is important that we all get behind helping the families and our coastal ecosystem recover from this devastating event," said Maynard Webb, LiveOps chairman and CEO. "For this important project, LiveOps was able to quickly source agents motivated to get the maximum number of pledges. It is a tremendous opportunity and honor for us to be able to leverage our versatile technology platform, as well as our large and giving agent community, to help an important cause like this."

LiveOps offers a contact center platform and services that allow calls to be routed to single or dispersed locations. Since 2000, the company has operated an on-demand call center service made up of thousands of home-based independent agents who contract with LiveOps to handle calls for financial, health, retail, insurance and non-profit organizations. During the Hurricane Katrina relief effort, LiveOps was the only call center able to respond and ramp up in hours (versus other call centers' timeframe of days) to assist the Red Cross with calls from family members looking for missing or displaced loved ones. Since then, the company has been on hand to help many other relief organizations with emergency and fundraising efforts.

"The tireless efforts of The Nature Conservancy, United Way, and the National Wildlife Federation are astounding. LiveOps is pleased to partner with these organizations to provide the ‘on-demand’ technology and people resources needed to put a national telethon effort together so quickly," added Webb.

During the national airing of "Disaster in the Gulf: How You Can Help," LiveOps independent agents securely handled donation calls from viewers. The LiveOps On-Demand Contact Center Platform is ideal for this type of high volume event as it provides ultimate flexibility and reliability with little time necessary to ramp up and down.
